Fresh from Valentine's Day and on to White's Day, Spring Break, and a new semester as second and third years。。。 The clock is ticking Ayumu。Meanwhile, Takeru and Sakurako have their own romantic shenanigans。 I'm pretty sure Takeru almost had a heart attack。 Fresh from Valentine's Day and on to White's Day, Spring Break, and a new semester as second and third years。。。 The clock is ticking Ayumu。Meanwhile, Takeru and Sakurako have their own romantic shenanigans。 I'm pretty sure Takeru almost had a heart attack。 。。。more
JW,
These two are just freaking cute! They've advanced a grade in school but Ayumu is no closer to beating Urushi or asking her out。 Despite the lack of progress in their relationship, the story is still adorable with it's slow, tender burn。 These two are just freaking cute! Mark,
When? When!? Hopefully soon, because I’m running out of humorous (?) variations of ‘not any time soon’ to start these off with。 Oh, you mean somebody did get together this volume? Huh。 Whatever could that mean? This series continues to churn itself out and manages to remain a personal favourite。 Last time was good, but this one bumps the goofery back up a notch and pulled a couple strong laughs out of me, making for a wonderfully cozy read。Comedic timing is a tricky thing, so having a couple of p When? When!? Hopefully soon, because I’m running out of humorous (?) variations of ‘not any time soon’ to start these off with。 Oh, you mean somebody did get together this volume? Huh。 Whatever could that mean? This series continues to churn itself out and manages to remain a personal favourite。 Last time was good, but this one bumps the goofery back up a notch and pulled a couple strong laughs out of me, making for a wonderfully cozy read。Comedic timing is a tricky thing, so having a couple of prime examples in this one is worth lauding - the one chapter with the Twitter parody that goes exactly where you think it’s going and exactly where Yaotome knows it’s going is a hoot; her exasperated proclamation at the end is just the best。There are also a couple of genre stalwarts like the adorable cat that’s exactly like its owner and the old ‘reading a fake manga in a manga that’s like the story of the real manga’, which really works just because of the framing device and the small details put into the fake series, right down to the female lead yelping ‘hyee!’ instead of Yaotome’s trademark ‘nwha!?’。In addition to all this, plus the usual trials and tribulations, there’s a very welcome bit of heart amidst all the joking around。 An unexpected Sakurako and Yaotome match-up leads to the former being very forthright about her anxiety in a way that was actually really nice to see and just a pleasant little bonding moment。It’s not that the series doesn’t do sentiment well, but it rarely goes to quite these lengths。 When everybody moves up a grade, Ayumu and Yaotome realize they don’t have a lot of time left, and watching the two of them play late into the night says so much with so little。Amusingly, the series also comes super close to justifying its ridiculous premise when Takeru completely signs on with Ayumu’s nonsense as a guy thing and then tries to stand up to Sakurako, which naturally ends up with him hypnotized and eating her hated peas。 He was literally asking for it though。However, Takeru really comes through with a strong play of his own later and ends up getting far more than he bargained for when he buys a present that goes completely awry, then in his favour, then completely awry in a different way (Sakurako clearly absorbs what she’s watching waaaaay too much)。 No, there isn’t a full confession, but these two are way ahead of the leads at this stage。It all ends with a bit of silliness as classes change and club reopens and Ayumu gets another taste of jealousy that is, of course, anything but。 Eventually he and Yaotome will get together, but as long as the stories are of this quality, there’s no rush。4 stars - there’s nothing surprising about this series; it is not out to shock you with wild twists and crazy swerves。 Some days it does what it does super well and others it just does it okay。 This is definitely one of the better ones and was a real delight。 。。。more
